Start the day at Polesworth Donkey Sanctuary
Begin your festive Saturday at Polesworth Donkey Sanctuary.
Visitors can meet and feed the donkeys, alongside rescued goats, ponies, chickens and other animals cared for by the sanctuary.
It’s a lovely place to visit with children, but adults are equally welcome to spend part of their Saturday feeding donkeys and pretending the visit was entirely somebody else’s idea.
Polesworth Donkey Sanctuary is a not-for-profit community interest company. Admission fees help provide housing, food and healthcare for the animals, so your visit also supports its continuing work.
The sanctuary has its own Donkey Diner, serving breakfasts, burgers, jacket potatoes, drinks and snacks if you want to stop for something to eat.
December opening times and special events can vary, so check directly with the sanctuary before travelling.
Stop for food and drinks at No.3 Bistro
After visiting the sanctuary, head back into the village and stop at No.3 Bistro and Bar on Market Street.
No.3 is a popular Polesworth spot for breakfast, lunch, coffee and drinks, with a relaxed atmosphere that makes it ideal for meeting friends.
If you want to start the Christmas celebrations early, No.3 also offers a Saturday bottomless brunch.
Alternatively, keep things civilised with lunch, coffee or something from the regular menu. There is still plenty of evening ahead.
Meet for a pre-show drink
Before heading to Polesworth Memorial Hall, meet the rest of your group for a drink in the village.
The Spread Eagle on the High Street is one local option, or you can choose your usual Polesworth pub and make your way to the Memorial Hall afterwards.
If you would rather meet everyone at the venue, the Memorial Hall’s fully licensed bar opens with the doors at 7pm.
That’s one of the advantages of keeping your Christmas night out local. Everyone knows where they’re going, there are no unfamiliar city-centre streets to negotiate and there’s a good chance you’ll meet more familiar faces along the way.
Finish with Polesworth Comedy Club’s Christmas Special
At 7pm, the doors open at Polesworth Memorial Hall for the main event.
On Saturday 5 December, Polesworth Comedy Club returns with a Christmas Special featuring four professional comedians from the UK circuit.
Internationally acclaimed musical comedian Christian Reilly combines original songs, brilliant improvisation and razor-sharp wit to create a performance unlike a conventional stand-up set.
He is joined by Andrew Maxwell, as seen on Live at the Apollo, Have I Got News for You and I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!
Also appearing is comedian and actor Jo Enright, known for Phoenix Nights, After Life and The Job Lot.
The evening will be hosted by Stevie Gray, whose quick wit and crowd work will keep the Christmas celebrations moving from the first introduction to the final applause.
A proper comedy club in the heart of Polesworth
For each show, Polesworth Memorial Hall is transformed into a professional comedy-club venue.
The room has theatre-style seating, professional stage lighting, a fully licensed bar and space for an audience of up to 200 people.
Our previous Polesworth Comedy Club shows filled weeks before the night, creating a brilliant atmosphere inside the hall and demonstrating the local appetite for high-quality live comedy.
The Christmas Special gives you another opportunity to enjoy a line-up you would normally expect to travel considerably further to see, right here in Polesworth.
